Someone who’ll watch over me
Anyone heard Sting’s 1988 version of that old 1926 tune? I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmIVkUYiXww&list=PLml9C1gWGN1QID-FLt7INssbcmKETsmCx
“Someone to Watch Over Me” is a song composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin from the musical Oh, Kay! (1926), where it was introduced by Gertrude Lawrence. Gershwin originally approached the song as an uptempo jazz tune, but his brother Ira suggested that it might work much better as a ballad, and George ultimately agreed. It has been performed by many artists since its debut and is a jazz standard as well as a key work in the Great American Songbook. It is also referenced in the play Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. ~from Wiki

OMG OMG OMG. I remember watching a Sting performance of this song on TV back in the late 80’s. It made a huge impression on me at the time and I’ve thought it lost to a failing memory, but following your link led me to it!!!
HERE IT IS:

I know it is terrible quality, but I remember how spare the arrangement was and how the camera work and cutting reflected the arrangement. And I distinctly remember the shot that starts about 1:15.
Thanks BobbieZen. What a great memory gift you have led me to.

Charles Traupmann Chet Baker is an unfair comparison for this song. He kind of inhabits it like no other and should be excluded from competition.

BobbieZen Yes there are no bad versions, just some that favor one’s taste a bit more than the rest. Â
I love the evolution of Sting in the various takes over the years from him.
