On this day in 2012 #TBT
We stopped today at Ottawa National Forest Headquarters, a place we have visited many times over the past 18 years… with Jess as a small child, while camping, to learn about Wolves, or just to purchase another Canned Bat. (A can requiring a can opener filled with an adorable stuffed animal, Bat, Eagle, Wolf, you name it, she’s got them all.)
David is busy talking to the Ranger at the front desk about the weather, the tourists, and hunting, and I’m bored. That, or my A.D.D. was in high gear, so……I wander off to the water fountain, then to an exhibit on cougars and bobcats, and then…I spot the Gift Shop. 😀
With SuperDave and the Ranger in earshot, but no longer in my range of vision, I am perusing the uninhabited gift store area of the facility. I busy myself with a basket-full of finger puppets at the front of the store. There’s a Wolf, a Moose, Snowy Owl, Bambi, Porcupine, Bear, Beaver, Raccoon, and my two favorites Myrtle the Turtle, and Wise Old Owl..(yeah, I named them on the spot). I strike up a fascinating conversation and am in mid-performance with my new finger friends when I feel the urge to look over my left shoulder.
The Gift Shop is not uninhabited after all..but a sweet little old lady Ranger is sitting quietly behind the counter, no more than 8 feet away, quitely watching my antics with a huge grin on her face. 😀
She offered to keep my purchases behind the counter once we made eye contact…bless her heart.
Needless to say, I spent a good chunk of coin today at the Ottawa National Forest Headquarters….a bag of magical rocks, finger puppets, local made hand-woven coffee/tea coaster, a beautiful locally made inlaid stone candle holder which smells of hyacinth, and reminds me of my Mama and a book which reminds me to, “Breathe the Wind, Drink the Rain.”
Live Every Single Second…and play with finger-puppets.
