Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
Some gave their todays so we might have better tomorrows.
May you have a grateful heart this Memorial Day.

Wonderful, wonderful photo. The national cemeteries are beautiful to me in any season, but on this weekend with the flags so carefully placed at every stone, the sight is stunning. It certainly should be a weekend of immense gratitude. I experienced a photographer’s dilemma at the cemetery yesterday in seeing so many poignant scenes that I would love to have captured, but I could not bear to raise my camera to people, as it seemed very disrespectful to do so. I settled for the older sections with no people around, and that spoke volumes as well.

Ann Kennedy Thank you… I appreciate your thoughts. I took many photos on this day but I also have reservations about sharing the personalized stones publicly, which is why I chose this shot for the holiday. However, I do have an album of them …visiting this cemetery is something I like to do throughout the year, but I especially like to go when the flags are displayed.
The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and a perfect place to go and express gratitude. May you have a wonderful and peaceful day!
