I love wine. Red wine, especially. Washington State Merlot to be exact. I love everything about it. I love the sleek varieties of bottles, the full bouquets, the earthy aromas, the dizzying effect after a few sips, the treasure trove of corks I’ve collected and used for various crafts over the years…

I’ve not had a drop of it for 6 weeks now, and I have to say, it surprises even me that I’m not really missing it. Coupled with a strong desire to lose some excess weight and take control of my health and out of control blood pressure, I made a decision to re-evaluate my wants, which had dwarfed my needs. Just like I said goodbye to unhealthy smoking habits 20 months ago, I’ve bid a fond farewell to those things that were keeping me from being the best version of me I can be. Those things being glasses of wine.

Long ago, my days of bellying up to the bar came to a close. Now, my habits of pouring a glass (or three) to relax have been replaced with me donning my hot pink running shoes and hitting the pavement for a brisk power walk of 5 miles every day…And I’m okay with that.
Perfectly OK.

PRO TIP: That currently unused wine rack that might be gathering dust in your kitchen is the perfect spot to showcase your bottles of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars. 🙂
