I bartended throughout college from 1980-84 at a big neon blue building which housed both a restaurant and a Disco. E.L. Krackers was where the kids at E.I.U., and quite a few ‘townies’ would go to get their groove on back in the day.  It was located in the same parking lot as the Original Jimmy John’s where Jimmy John Liautaud opened up shop in 1983.
This was more often than not the last song played after last call for alcohol, just before when we turned up the lights and turned off the music and closed up at 2:00 a.m.
Then, after work, we’d go to a nearby open all night greasy spoon and eat Biscuits and Gravy (which we lovingly referred to as ‘biscuits & paste’)…
Damn, Charleston…sometimes I miss you.

  1. Its Charleston just like I put in the original post. Ben Zaitz…for whatever reason my spell checker decided to change it to Charles.
Also there’s this wonderful invention called googling where you can actually type in Eastern Illinois University and find out exactly what city it’s in…. amazing
