Back in the olden days before I started spending time on social media this was a daily addiction. I honestly can’t recall the last time I sat down and tackled and then completed one of these, until today.
20 years ago when I was an operating room nurse, an anesthesiologist friend and I would race each other every morning to see who could complete the daily jumble first.
He was good …but I learned some tricks from him, like arranging the letters in a circle in order to visually find the scrambled word faster, and soon I was winning more often than not.
My daddy used to amaze me with the speed and accuracy with which he could complete the most difficult crossword puzzles. I always admired his brain, and I think largely due to his love of reading and his love of words, his vocabulary was extensive.
Words… I’m thinking about getting back in touch with them on a more regular basis. đ
Words are like comfortable old friends that never fail you or stay away for too long; words in a story, words to a song, words whispered to us by loved ones along the way. Perfect time for it. And I always look forward to what you have to say

I used to do the crossword puzzle in the newspaper every day. I really haven’t in quite a while. I always enjoyed them. I remember doing a ton of them after my dad’s death. They made things easier.

I think he may be right.

Challenging crossword puzzles have always gotten me through some of the longest waits during my son’s many surgeries. When the ambulance is in the way I rush to pack a bag with phone, charger, snacks and crossword puzzle book. Hard to find good ones in the last five years though. And if you are stuck looking for one in a grocery store, fuggidabout it.

I’d love to have crossword puzzles on my iPad. I recently deleted SimCity build it and a few other things that I used to pass the time because they became frustrating. Crossword puzzles have never frustrated me …they’ve only encouraged me to think harder and go deeper until I got it solved.

BobbieZen I use Shortyz Crossword on my Android tablet (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.totsp.crossword.shortyz&hl=en).  Doing a search for “crossword” in the iOS app store turns up quite a few as well.  I’ll try a few on my iPad and see which one is best and pass along my recommendations.
The great thing is that the puzzles you download don’t take up much room. Â You can download them on a daily basis. Â You can also subscribe to the ones that you like. Â Some are pay. Â Most are free. Â Some are easy. Â Some are hard. Â Take your pick and enjoy. Â đ

Wish I had a tablet to work on crossword puzzles! Â That would be one of the few reasons for me to have one. Â I get by pretty well on an extra large smartphone for most things. Â When you mentioned seeing the selections in grocery stores for crosswords books I’ve noticed they have gone over to mostly large print versions and Sudoku. Â And then the crosswords are all the “easy” variety. Â Ah for the terrific Simon and Shuster series of challenging and of course the NYTimes crosswords. Â To me I look for a crossword to give you the tiny detail in a clue that it is a foreign or archaic word. Â That often trips me up.

The New York Times crosswords were my daddy’s favorites as well… and I’m afraid we know all too well why they put those now in large print versions ….it’s because we are a dying breed and most of us are in bifocals or trifocals by now! cobalt pleaseâ

My trick for jumble was to look away from the letters. staring at them makes me try to read them instead of imagining the possible words. my two cents lol I guess it’s similar to the putting them in a circle

P.S. I stopped subsricibing to newspapers several years ago when it became obvious they were all sourcing the news from the same place. Nice copy and paste. I do miss sitting down and completing the puzzles in the morning, and reading the comics afterwards as my reward lol

BobbieZenâ Sometimes circumstances shut down our desire to speak. In my case, it is typically my negative self-talk. Occasionally, their seeming truth takes over the actual truth. All I need to do is search for inspiration outside my own belly button. Those @$#!& voices are shut down, once I do things I typically enjoy, listen to songs that touch me or talk to people that help me remember to smile. đ
I do come here often; listen to your music, your happy and your realness, and never leave heavier than when I got here. Without even realizing it, your light has pointed my way out of the valleys often.
