Watching my gardens grow…
The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? Dear folks, the food was in homes, gardens, local fields, and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard.

I grew up on a farm and the major fields grew potatoes (sweet and russet) and silage grains for feed…but like most we had a small (about 2 acre garden for the house. My mother seemed to be canning all summer long. Have a great weekend

I used to be more into growing vegetables than I am now. What I like are fruit trees. I like the blossoms, I think they add to the property. And there’s the fruit. Right now I have two cherries and a plum tree all producing.

I’m hoping our plum tree produces like it did three years ago, David Renaud. The past couple of years were a bust. It’s my favorite tree, especially during spring when it’s budding.

Mine has been pruned (no pun intended, really) way back because its in the front yard of our old house which is about ten feet from the sidewalk and I can’t allow it to become overgrown. But, man! That tree produces hundreds and hundreds of plums!

I don’t make jam, but there’s a woman who comes every August with her two daughters for all the plums they want, and she makes jam! We always get a jar or two 🙂

My dad made the first for me, and then SuperDave followed suit and made the second.

BobbieZen gardening is like getting tattoos. You can’t plant just a couple of things. The next thing you know, you’re opening a canning factory 🙂

I used to add a lot of quirky veggies that in the back of my mind I knew I would never have success with, but I had to try dammit!

BobbieZen haha! There is a rabbit in my dad’s garden that scares him all the time by hiding, then bolting when he least expects it.
