not so random thoughts on social media

I first came to Google+ at my brother’s suggestion. At the time my daughter, a budding photographer followed our lead…the image below taken at Navy Pier was one of her first posts.

After a few months of dealing with online stalkers and internet assholes she decided it wasn’t worth it and left to pursue other things she found worthwhile. I miss her presence here but I understand the reasons behind her choice. Many times I’ve thought of doing the same. I actually did leave and close my account earlier this year, (and the year before that, and maybe even another time)  to take a hiatus and to try and gain fresh perspective upon my return.

The Internet is a hostile place at times… you are accepted and then criticized. … you are praised and then ridiculed…. you are often judged, misjudged, and sometimes completely misunderstood…you have good days and you have bad days.

When I feel good I let people know about it ….when I’m feeling bad or suffering a loss I tend to keep to myself. My style on posts can be just as individual and simple or complicated as I am. My mother taught me if I didn’t have anything nice to say I shouldn’t say anything at all …I’m still following that advice the best I can…but trust me, I don’t always keep my mouth (or keyboard) shut when I should.  My purpose for being here is to simply share my stories, make positive connections, share some laughs and hopefully help encourage others who may be going through particularly difficult times.
That’s me. Take it or leave it.
